An urgent need:
- to establish alternative possibilities to the conventional socio-cultural construct, some of which are disregarded or condemned by society.
The body:
- blank page on which society etches its constructed texts: how we think, how we behave and what we accept as the norm
When the body is stripped of its socially constructed layers, it has the potential to reveal a truer core that is far removed from what is socially acceptable. No more well-constructed identities but ambiguous, elusive creatures will appear.
Touching on concepts of gender and culture, this performance creates a pseudo-society whereby ambiguity is experienced both personally, from each dancer’s perspective, and in contrast to each other. In this process the body is considered to be an unfinished article, constantly evolving to expose a new Other, while challenges binary oppositions – right or wrong, male or female, acceptable or unacceptable.
Stepping through The Other Door grants you the liberty of experimenting with your identity – a space to be yourself.
