“How do we face new possibilities, options placed before us? How do we deal with searching for, discovering and exploring a path that may be unusual, but possible?”
How much does the narrowing of our base of support influence our physical and mental stability? What’s it like to reach a certain limit? How do we face new possibilities, options placed before us? How do we deal with searching for, discovering and exploring a path that may be unusual, but possible?
FLY! a dance solo by performer, choreographer and physiotherapist Markéta Stránská How much does the narrowing of our base of support influence our physical and mental stability? What’s it like to reach a certain limit? How do we face new possibilities, options placed before us? How do we deal with searching for, discovering and exploring a path that may be unusual, but possible? By changing our prevailing stereotypes? A solo dance performance by choreographer, performer and physiotherapist Markéta Stránská highlights the fact that every divergence offers enriching opportunities and unique avenues, both physical and mental. Every impediment is an occasion to wake up our creativity, playfulness and imagination. FLY! – a physical life experience with one leg, one prosthetic leg and two crutches.

“Distortion – Statue of GoGo dancer”
Distortion explores Taneli’s background as a go-go-dancer. On the podium he attempts to make the audience dance, but also stages himself as an object that has no real power over the audience reactions. How to stay true to the goals of entertainment and true to yourself while being watched?
Distortion is a Go-Go dance performance created by LOCATION X. Distortion explores Taneli Törmä’s background as a go-go-dancer. Accompanied with a 2 m x 2 m podium and a sound system he attempts to make the audience dance, but also stages himself as an object that has no real power over the audience reactions. Is this what it is like to be a statue? Would a go-go dancer still make a better statue than the cold stones we usually stare to build our nations and our histories? Being past 30 years old Taneli also has to admit that his go-go dancing is not what it used to be! However the situation provides him a possibility to investigate the line between being an object and the subjective freedom – the freedom of being a person. Distortion artist team includes Taneli Törmä (FIN/DK) (choreographer & performer & artistic director of LOCATION X) and Esa M. Mattila (FIN) (sound artist & composer & touring sound technician). Project is part of Tanelis continuous research, about his dance background and present it present form. Distortion was started in O Espaco Do Tempo’s sound residency in July 2018 in Portugal and in L1danceFest 2019 artists will present it first time in public.
